Flowing Creativity: “Exploring Art Through Ink Practice”

Inspired by Nancy Newton

Work by author inspired by Nancy Newton's Hellebore Awakening

I have had the opportunity to discover Nancy Newton, and I have found her to be an extraordinary artist.
I am grateful to have had the chance to see her work, and I couldn't help but feel drawn to engage more deeply with it as I viewed her exhibit, "From The Sea/From The Past." Her insights into her passion for landscape painting and the various natural elements she incorporates in her work were captivating.

I was also greatly impressed by her ability to capture the essence of nature through her artistic style. Her exhibit was truly inspiring, and I was able to take away various ideas that I can use. One of her most captivating works was a painting that featured vibrant flowers, and I was greatly drawn to its intricate details and vibrant colors. It was clear that she put a lot of effort and time into her work, and I respected her dedication and skill. Unbelievably her exhibition made me feel uplifted and inspired.

Nancy shared that she enjoys gardening and being able to see the wonders of the world around her. She also loves to appreciate the beauty of trees. I studied the painting extensively, taking note of its essence through vibrant colors and brush strokes. I was captivated by its graceful petals and flowing stems, captivating the senses with its beauty.

The Process of Making it:

I started by working with damp papers and introducing ink drops anywhere onto the paper that felt right. This concept was inspired by Nancy's love for water, nature, and seashells. To capture the essence of this project, I recorded a video, which was mainly motivated by the desire to share the water and ink interplay with the audience. The interaction between the ink and water seemed effortless, as if they knew where to go. I let the ink dry and began to doodle flowers, which was a fitting way to express my creativity. I approached this project with a sense of spontaneity and adopted a creative freedom that was similar to the way Nancy Newton approached her work. The spontaneity in my approach allowed me to express my ideas, which were comparable to the flow I experienced while working with the ink and water. This kind of work is something new to me and I’m glad I took a step on this and started creating more work similar to Nancy’s works.

Her inspiring and uplifting art has provided me with an opportunity to feel fulfilled and at ease in the world of expression. The exhibit has provided me with a newfound confidence in my own abilities, and it has empowered me to take on new risks and pursue new experiences. This was something easy, fun and relaxing way to make art, I recommend this for everyone who’s having difficulties to start something in the artwork to give this a shot with ink and water!
